PJ ‘s and Toilet Paper

Let’s face it….Diapers are EXPENSIVE. I know that if I clipped coupons and payed super close attention to store sales I could get some pretty good deals on diapers…BUT I don’t have time for that. Shortly before Lucas was born I learned about Amazon Mom. It wasn’t until recently that I found out what a gem being a member of amazon mom really is.

Ever since he was born, I have not had to worry about running out of diapers and making midnight runs to the store….. Heck I haven’t ever even bought diapers for him in a store. I create a subscription for diapers and they are delivered monthly. The diapers are a large quantity (@196) in a box depending on the diaper size and when you create a recurring subscription as an amazon mom member, you get 20% off your order. I’ve been doing this for about 2 yrs now (thank goodness I had 2 diaper showers thrown for me for #2 so I’m set for about a yr on diapers for this little guy).

Besides diapers, Amazon has a whole host of other things that you can order through their subscribe and save program (and you don’t have to be an Amazon Mom Member). HOWEVER, I recently learned that as an amazon mom member, if you are signed up to have 5 or more subscribe and save items delivered to you WITHIN THE SAME MONTH, you will get 20% off your entire order. I already have diapers, wipes, and diaper genie refills (delivered at different intervals and i have now added a few more items to the mix (Paper towels, Toilet paper, Shower Gel). So while I already get 20% on my diaper products, if I add any other items ins given month to total five items, the rest of the items are also 20% off.

I am always on the lookout for new items to setup for recurring delivery. I wish I could do this for all of my groceries because there is nothing I hate more than grocery shopping.

So, if you buy your diapers in the store (w/out coupons) and if you are looking for a better deal on not only diapers but other household goods, then you must check out Amazon’s Subscribe and Save Program AND sign up with Amazon Mom to get even better deals.

When you first sign up for Amazon Mom you get 3 months of free 2 days shipping after that you can always sign up for the Prime Membership which gives you free 2 days shipping for 1 yr….this is what we have and I LOVE it….probably because I order anything and EVERYTHING off of Amazon. And if you are ever curious about how much you purchase through Amazon to see if the Prime membership is good for you, you can always run a report from within your account which will show you order history, etc…. pretty nifty for a #’s gal like me.

Have a GREAT Weekend!

Zoo or BUST

Now that Lucas is getting old enough to really want to learn and experience new things, I was determined that this year we would get him to the Zoo, Arboretum, etc… this year. So, in preparation, I used Christmas money to buy a family pass to both the zoo and Arboretum. I haven’t gone to either place as much as I would have hoped by this point in the year, probably because having a baby a few months ago certainly put the brakes on outings especially b/c chasing after a toddler is crazy now that I have an infant to take care of as well.

When Doug and I were growing up, the Dallas Zoo was stinky and old. Little did I know that the zoo was no longer owned by the city and was now privately funded and as a result had been completely redone with some really cool exhibits. When I took Lucas to the Zoo earlier this year with my moms group I was amazed. I really did not recognize the place. It no longer smelled and it just looked so “refreshed”. Ever since then I have been trying to convince the hub to come along with us, but he absolutely refused saying that it was too stinky and he had no interest in going. I just couldn’t convince him about the vast improvements.

Knowing he was going to be off work today for the July 4th Holiday extended weekend, I asked if we could all go as a family (especially since the temps are lower than normal for this time of year.) He finally said YES!

We loaded the double stroller, some, water, snacks and a sandwich for Lucas, and off we went (Did I mention it just takes longer to get out the door with 2 under the age of 2? J) Our planned 8:30 am departure turned into 9:15…not bad when we didn’t wake up until almost 8am (yes the ENTIRE house slept in). Enjoy the pics of our trip….

Bronc Riding the Elephant

Without a doubt, the Dallas Zoo is much better than it was 20 years ago. My favorite part is definitely the Giants of the Savanna which shows the elephants, Giraffe’s and Zebra’s out in a more natural habitat.

Chillin’ in the Savannah

Talk about Up Close and Personal. Lucas wanted to “Touch Him” until he had the opportunity to do so 🙂

The New Jeep Driver. “All Aboard…!”

Mommy can we have a cat?

A Clean Start

Like many others I have battled with my weight for pretty much my entire life. I never have liked to buy cute clothes in larger sizes b/c I never planned on being a certain size for long….in fact I would find something really cute and buy it in a smaller size thinking that soon I could wear it. Then I would find several items that were never worn b/c I never did enough to get the weight off.

4 yrs ago I said enough is enough. Doug went to Iraq and I decided that was my yr to take care of me. With the aide of a certain weight loss program (which shall remain nameless), I ate freeze dried food (yuck), lost 50 lbs. and started running. Lets face it, eating all of your meals out of small packets mixed with water is no long term solution. I was in the best shape of my life and it felt great. Fast forward 4 yrs (a marriage and 2 babies later and my weight has gone right back up).

I enjoyed my 1st pregnancy and ate what I wanted. I had lost the few pounds I gained by the time I got home from the hospital. Even though I breastfed for a yr I pretty much kept eating what I wanted without exercising and the pounds started coming back. By my sons 1 st Bday, I was still in maternity clothes and then I got pregnant again. I was determined that after this pregnancy I was going to get out of maternity clothes ASAP.

I started to hear more and more about AdvoCare’s 24 Day Challenge . I was somewhat familiar with AdvoCare as a friend had introduced me to Spark several years before which I LOVED!! I figured I would give the challenge a shot after I was done breastfeeding, but then i learned from a friend that AdvoCare has a MODIFIED CHALLENGE FOR BREASTFEEDING MOMS. Since my husband was looking to shed a few lbs, I convinced him to do the challenge with me and what better way to motivate than a friendly competition? We immediately ordered the 24 product bundle for him and the products that I could use for the challenge (there are a few product differences for the Breastfeeding plan compared to the standard 24 Day Product bundle.)

What was the competition you ask?

Whoever loses the greatest percentage of body weight by the end of July (basically 2 challenges) would get a prize or money to go towards that item (he wants an ipad and I want an SLR Camera).

We are in the midst of the challenge now and so far are both enjoying not only watching the weight come off, but we are also enjoying the constant eating 🙂 AND NO FREEZE DRIED FOOD PACKETS!!! REAL FOOD

Did I mention that I am winning, although he is closing the gap 😉 Guess I need to step it up a bit 😉

I will be posting more details later about the the challenge.

If you are having any thoughts about shedding a few lbs to get into that bathing suit or simply to feel better, then this is a must. It is definitely a long term solution for eating Clean.

Two Months Old

Dear Elliott,
You are two months old today!!!

Weight – 10 lbs 2 oz
Height – will post later

Just about grown out of NB and are starting to wear 0-3 mos

You are wearing your last NB diapers. Started wearing size 1’s at night.

Started turning towards voices and focusing in people, things, etc…cooing

You started becoming quite predictable with your sleep patterns this month. After waking up in the morning, you are ready to go to sleep about 1-1 1/2 hrs later. If I miss this you will certainly let me know by crying and getting quite angry. You want my help to get you to sleep. So I pick you up, cradle you in my arms, Give you a baba (paci), wrap a blanket around you (draping it over your face instantly relaxes you), and you are out within minutes.

At night you are still sleeping quite well. Within the past week I have been able to starting putting you down for the night around 9. You then proceed to sleep about 6 hrs, waking up around 3am to eat and then you fall back asleep until around 7:30am.

You are certainly making this mommy thing a breeze. Thanks for bring such a great baby. I have to admit though, that time is flying by so quickly. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
